New King’s Guard Gin Receives Gold Medal From London Spirits Competition 2023

One of the country’s most decorated craft distilleries, Hawkridge Distillers based in West Berkshire has received a Gold medal at the London Spirits Competition 2023 for its new “Guards” London Dry Gin.

The Guards London Dry Gin, a new spirit released by West Berkshire-based Hawkridge Distillers, has been awarded the Gold medal at the London Spirits Competition 2023. This gin, with a bottle evocative of the five regiments of the Foot Guards, which have become an icon of monarchy and service in England, was inspired by a serving officer in the guard.
Over 2021 and 2022, the team at Hawkridge Distillers worked to design this gin, which has been blended to have an exceptionally smooth expression with fresh citrus forward, subtle floral notes, finished with a juniper burst and a dash of English honey.
Managing Director of Hawkridge Distillers, Phil Howarth said “It has been a true labour of love bringing this project together. Our distilling and design teams have worked with the various regiments of footguards to make sure every detail of the product is spot on. We have ended up with a very smart, delicious, and iconic product which we feel the market will love. We are all thrilled that it has been recognised so well at the LSC by the award of a gold medal.”
The LSC describes the London Dry as “A gin with flavours and aromas of spice and citrus on nose and palate nice round long finish.”
In time for King Charles III’s Coronation celebrations, the gin has been launched and is available from the distillery and many of its retail partners across the country. Proceeds from every bottle sold in the UK are donated to regimental charities, supporting veterans in need and the families of injured and fallen soldiers.
The London Spirits Competition is an international and independent spirits competition that is organized by the Beverage Trade Network. Their judging panel analyses each entry by quality, value, and package score, assigning numeric values to each, with only the few that score over 90 out of 100 in these factors receiving their lauded Gold medal. This year’s gold medal for Hawridge Distillers marks the second award they have received from the LSC, with another of their products having previously received a silver medal.
