New Alzheimer’s Approach Being Utilized in Houston Retirement Community

Believe it or not, more than 6 million Americans now live with Alzheimer’s disease. Doctors make a new diagnosis every 65 seconds, and the disorder accounts for more elderly deaths than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.
Although there is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s, the $3.7 billion spent annually on research is helping doctors and other professionals discover new medications and treatment methods at faster than average rates.
Since January 2021, two new medications have received FDA approval for the treatment of this cognitive disorder: Aducanumab and Lecanemab. However, most experts say that medication alone isn’t enough to slow the progression of Alzheimer’s, which is why a true preventative approach includes multiple pieces. In many cases, Alzheimer’s treatment requires an individualistic approach that targets everything from nutrition and exercise to brain stimulation and social interaction.
